I didn’t sleep a wink tonight despite my best efforts, and around 5:30 I gave up all hope. But at least I had Them Crooked Vultures to keep me company. John Paul Jones (Zeppelin) Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters/Nirvana) and Josh Homme (Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE OF COURSE) join forces and drunkenly slur into my brain reassurance that I’ll get through the day. If only I would just quit moping, take a long, soothing gargle with Jim Beam and drop a little acid. Then I could maybe kick as much as as they do.

A beautiful (and heartbreaking) look at one of the greatest artists of the last several centuries. Beyond the blurry shapes of trees and fields, beyond the gobs of paint, the story of Vincent van Gogh is too fascinating and tragic to be fiction. To understand him, you have to see his very unique angle. As the narrator puts it, van Gogh carried with him an “unconditional belief in our sympathetic understanding” of his work.
If you never “got” Starry Night, I guarantee after watching this you WILL “get it.”

I really need to get my grandma on the internet.
Terrifying piece on how violent acts against women in Afghanistan and Pakistan may prophesy the future of US military presence in the region.

Warning: the pictures are disturbing.
